Portrait of Christine Alexiou

Christine Alexiou

I graduated from the Ontario College of Art with a degree in Communications and Design. I spent my career as a graphic artist working in the Educational Publishing industry first as an illustrator and graphic designer then as an Art Director.

I have had a passion for sewing since my first sewing class in Home Economics class. I also have a love for textiles that are rich in colour and texture. As a result I have developed an interest in wet wool felting, hand dyeing and painting on fabric as well as other forms of embellishing.

With a background in art and a love of needle arts and textiles it is no surprise that I was drawn to art quilts and fibre art as a way to express myself creatively. Currently my main focus is on hand painted whole cloth and appliquéd quilts. Much of my work is thematic and features people, as well as creative embellishment using multiple textures achieved by fabric manipulation often in combination with hand stitching and embroidery. I hope you enjoy looking at my art quilts and fibre art pieces as much as I enjoyed creating them. Please visit again soon as I am always working on new pieces.
